UFC 94 Flashback: GSP, Machida Gain VictoriesReigning lightweight champ BJ Penn entered his main event battle against welterweight kingpin Georges St. Pierre looking to become the first man in UFC history to simultaneously hold titles in two weight classes. GSP never gave him the chance to make history, as he stopped Penn after four increasingly dominant rounds to retain his belt with a TKO victory. Both fighters had considerable fan support, with vocal, flag waving delegations from the Hawaiian Islands and Canada in evidence. During ring introductions, both men received enthusiastic cheers tempered with a few boos. After the opening horn sounded, however, the Penn backers had little to cheer about while the champions supports broke out in G-S-P chants on several occasions. Boxing guru Freddy Roach recently praised Penn as the best technical puncher in MMA, but he had no opportunity to bring this weapon to bear as he had trouble finding the range from the outset. GSP mixed up his look perfectly, either staying just outside Penns range using his 6 reach advantage effectively or more often smothering his opponent on takedown attempts. St. Pierre was unable to complete any takedowns during the first round, but easily dictated the pace and style of the bout. GSP began to assert his dominance in round two. He got a takedown early in the frame and began to mount a ground and pound assault while moving around in Penns legendary guard with frightening ease. At this point, it was apparent that GSPs superior strength and insane physical conditioning were going to figure prominently in the outcome of the fight. The eventual outcome was foretold between rounds two and three, as the obviously exhausted Penn required a pep talk from his entourage that his fatigue was all in his head. Across the cage, GSP calmly sipped water looking for all the world that he could go 12 rounds. Round three was similar to the previous one, with GSP taking his opponent to the mat with a decreasing level of resistance and mauling him with punches and elbows once he got there. His complete control over the BJJ black belt Penn was incredible, but hardly surprising given the way that GSP dominated four time NCAA All American wrestler Josh Koscheck on the ground during their matchup. The fourth round was a wall to wall rout for the welterweight champion, who started by effectively trading strikes with Penn before taking him down once again and resuming his highly successful ground based attack. At this point with GSP moving around at ease and Penn mounting little resistance it was apparent that the challenger was physically spent. St. Pierre almost ended the fight on the ground, as referee Herb Dean repeatedly reminding Penn that he needs to fight back. Penn survived the round on instinct alone, moving around just enough to keep the referee from stopping the proceedings. After the horn sounded to end the fourth round, however, it was evident that Penn had nothing physically or emotionally left and the fight was stopped by Dean on advice from the ringside physician. Displaying his characteristic class, GSP delayed his celebration until he had crossed the cage and kneeled by his vanquished foe to honor his competitive spirit. After a quick celebration among GSP and his team, he faced his next challenger in the person of Thiago Alves. In the co-feature attraction, Lyoto Machida kept his undefeated professional MMA record intact with a first round TKO victory over Thiago Silva. Silva had no answer for Machidas well rounded skills and unorthodox Shotokan karate based style. Machida took his opponent down and knocked his opponent down twice”all counters as Silva was coming forward and Machida backing away. As the first round entered its final seconds, it appeared that Silva started to ease up in anticipation of the horn. Machida used this opportunity for another takedown, and then nailed his surprised opponent with a powerful punch that ended the fight. Niche Blueprint 2.0: The Niche Ecommerce Product Has Returned!Ever since Tim Godfrey’s and Steven Clayton’s very successful course on web e-commerce named niche blueprint went off the market people have been wondering when it would finally be available once more. At last the wait is finally over as on the 11th of January niche blueprint 2.0 will be launched. From the 4th of January niche blueprint 2.0 will be officially in prelaunch. The public will be able to see a video on this date that will reveal proof that the niche blueprint 2.0 system really does work. They will also explain why this is an extremely realistic business that even people with no marketing or online experience can succeed at, as long of course, that they actually work at it. Naturally this business as any other business, although not difficult, does require work and effort so don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. The first time that the niche blueprint course was launched, in January last year, they sold 5000 copies in the first 36 hours and I’m sure it will happen again this year too with niche blueprint 2.0, especially with the economy as it is and many people looking for other sources of income. I think the main reasons that niche blueprint and niche blueprint 2.0 was and will be so popular (just like there other course commission blueprint) is not just that it is the best course of its kind out there or that the support Steve Clayton gives in their forum is without parallel. But no, for me the main reason is that niche blueprint is a very easy and effective way of starting a highly profitable online business where one does not have to worry about any of the following: - Product of your own - Any joint-venture partners or affiliates - A list - Extra investment (with the exception of domain names and hosting) - IM and general technical web knowledge To achieve this apart from putting together a detailed instructional blueprint, Tim and Steven have created a number of phenomenal tools. In niche blueprint 2.0 you will find some incredible software like, pushbutton website creation, search engine optimization promotion, keyword phrase and web e-commerce niche locating tools and more. To make things even better the original niche blueprint course price is being dropped by 40% up until the 18th of January 2010 where the price will go back up to the normal price. So those of you, who are interested in buying the niche blueprint 2.0 course, should make sure they get it as early as possible during that week as the last time they closed it down after only 36 hours! The MMA Legacy Of Helio GracieThe founding father of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and patriarch of the Gracie family, Helio Gracie, died in early 2009 at the age of 95. His influence in martial arts as well as the sport of mixed martial arts is mind boggling. The Gracie family name will forever be synonymous with Brazilian sports, jiu-jitsu, MMA and the UFC”not only due to Helios own accomplishments but the legacy he created both by training others and through his family. Helio Gracie began his training in mixed martial arts early, and by his teenage years was already teaching judo. While he had no problem mastering the theoretical aspects of judo, he found that many of its techniques were less effective for a practitioner with a smaller build. Along with his brother Carlos, Gracie began to work out his own fighting system by adapting many of judo’s techniques and making them more a product of leverage rather than brute strength. This led to the creation of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), frequently called Gracie Jiu Jitsu in his honor. Gracie also had a professional fighting career of his own, taking on champions from other fighting disciplines in an early version of modern MMA. These bouts were grueling, unregulated affairs with rules that were often made up as they went along and time limits that seem barbaric by todays standards. By his own recollection, he had 15 fights against the top fighters of his day. These included pro wrestlers, boxers and other martial arts specialists. His most famous battle was against Japanese judo legend Masahiko Kimura, resulting in a rare loss for Gracie. Despite the setback, he fought bravely and may have actually enhanced his legend after refusing to submit to a reverse arm bar (the same move that now bears Kimuras name). Only after his arm was broken did his brother Carlos throw in the towel. Gracie’s greatest impact, however, may have been through his progeny which is an important part of Brazilian sports and mixed martial arts even today. Royce Gracie is well known as the first UFC superstar, while sons Rickson Royler, Renzo have also achieved considerable fame in professional MMA. At the time of his death, Helio Gracie was a 6th Dan Judo black belt and the only living 10th degree master of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The cause of Gracies death was officially given as natural causes. His last words will go down as a fitting envoi to a man who gave so much of himself to fighting: “I created a flag from the sports dignity. I oversee the name of my family with affection and nerves of blood. Ross Everett is a widely published freelance writer and respected authority on sports betting odds comparison. The Arena Football League Calls It QuitsAfter canceling their 2009 season, the Arena Football League has shut down entirely and appears headed for bankruptcy. Earlier this week, the league office released a short statement indicated that it had ceased operations because owners were “unable to reach any consensus on restructuring the league over the past eight months.” The leagues statement continued that there are no other viable options available to the league right now.” Even before the decision was made to cancel the 2009 season this past December, it had been a tumultuous off-season for the Arena Football League. It began with the resignation of long time AFL commissioner David Baker just two days before the Arena Bowl championship game. Though Baker put a positive spin on his resignation saying that he felt it was time, the timing was curious despite his insistence that it was due to “personal reasons”. In October, the owner of the New Orleans VooDoo announced that the team would cease operations”despite being one of the league leaders in attendance. In announcing that the team would fold, owner Tom Benson (who also owns the NFL Saints) suggested that the end of the five year old franchise was in no way an indictment of the New Orleans market. At that point, uncertainty began to reign over the leagues future. A dispersal draft to reassign the VooDoo personnel was scheduled and postponed several times amid assurances from the AFL office that rumors of financial instability were unfounded. The inability to get any consensus on a business model for the league reportedly served as the final nail in the AFLs coffin. A major problem was skyrocketing player salaries, and some sort of compensation system tied to team revenues was a necessity. That agreement was reached with the players, but a bigger schism was left between several factions of owners”primarily drawn along lines of overall wealth. Despite the demise of the Arena Football League, it wont be the end of the road for the twenty two year old sport. known as The 50 yard indoor war . Arena Football lives on in the AF2 league which, ironically, was originally started as something of a developmental organization for the AFL. The league plays in smaller markets and has a more realistic salary structure. A number of current AFL players”and possibly a couple of AFL franchises”could end up in AF2. Future Book Betting Traps And How To Avoid ThemBetting on sports ‘futures’ is an enjoyable and potentially profitable way to wager, but there are several potential risks that can lead to losses. Here’s a rundown of things to avoid: Search for the best price: A common mistake is to assume that the price on a specific futures wager position will be the same at every sportsbook. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, you’ll often see a greater degree of difference between futures prices from book to book than any other form of bet. This is because that books aren’t as worried about what price other outfits are offering as they are about keeping their own financial position balanced. In a competitive field, don’t obsess with picking the winner: This may sound like a strange concept, but once you understand the theory behind it it makes perfect sense. In a large field–the NCAA basketball tournament is a perfect example–the top few favorites are invariably priced at odds that are less than the ‘true odds’ of them winning. On the other hand, there are always teams that fly ‘under the radar’ available at higher prices that present a betting overlay. To put this in more theoretical terms, the “true odds” of Duke winning the NCAA Championship are almost certainly higher than the price we’re getting. Obviously, determining the “true odds”, or actual probability of a future event is an inexact science but think of it this way: if the NCAA tournament was played 100 times would Duke wind up winning 50 of those? Given the number of other good teams and the propensity for upsets along the way, its doubtful. For the sake of argument, lets say that Duke has a 33% chance to win the tournament. That means that I wouldn’t consider a bet on Duke to be a good value unless I was getting a price that a) accurately reflected the true probability of their winning and b) gave me some compensation for assuming the “risk of the unknown” inherent in taking the position so far in advance. At +500 I might be interested, but at +200 the value just isn’t there. In a less competitive field, there can be instances where even a big favorite is a good value. For example, lets say a book was to take action on a bikini contest between a Victoria’s Secret supermodel and three members of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The model would essentially be a 100% probability to win the contest, meaning that even a high chalk price would be a good value. Risking a lot of money to win a little is a tough thing to justify, however, even if the math makes sense. Don’t try to make a huge profit with little risk: Sports betting provides few opportunities to make a ‘big killing’. It may happen occasionally, but even the big payouts when it occurs doesn’t make chasing big longshots a good value. If you’re serious about sports betting it is crucial to maintain your focus on the underlying numbers and look for value at all times. If you want to take a longshot at a huge jackpot, play the lottery but don’t try to do it at a sportsbook. Wagering value is just as important at the bottom of the barrel as it is at the top. Just because you’re getting a huge potential payback on a big dog doesn’t make it a good value. Make sure that the payback you’re getting presents an overlay situation–even on a huge underdog. Don’t bet one-sided futures or propositions: Though many of these are not futures per se, a lot of sportsbooks offer silly propositions on nonsport events as a way to get publicity, or just to be funny. Its important to make a distinction between this type of silly bet and more realistic nonsport propositions which frequently present good wagering value. Im talking the really outlandish stuff here. Not too long ago, a sportsbook posted a line on Martians landing on earth and painting the White House red by the end of the year. The “YES” was +2500 or thereabouts, which is far from reflective of the “true odds” of this unlikely event. Even if you’re the type that collects classic Art Bell shows on tape and believes in UFOs you wouldn’t place the probability of this happening at more than a fraction of a percent. The book only offered the “YES” side of the proposition, meaning that you couldn’t lay even a huge price on the more likely outcome. Another book had a futures offering for what would happen first with Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore and Bruce Willis. All of the options were very unlikely–Ashton and Bruce fighting on PPV and my favorite–and the longest odds–Ashton, Bruce and Demi hopping in bed together and releasing a porno video documenting the event. You’d receive a sizable payback if any of the events ever transpired, but I’m not exactly sure how to compute the “true odds” on “when pigs fly. 3 Reasons for Using AdsenseIn order to appreciate why Adsense is essential for your content sites, you must first understand how it works. The theory is really straightforward, if you ruminate about it. The publisher or the webmaster places a java script into a website. Each time the page is visited, the java script will pull adverts from the Adsense scheme. The adverts that are displayed should therefore be closely related to the subject matter on the web page serving the ad. If a visitor clicks on an advert, the webmaster serving the ad earns a portion of the money that the advertiser is paying Google for the click. The search engine is the one managing all the tracking and payments, providing an easy way for webmasters to display content-sensitive and targeted adverts without having the bother of contacting advertisers, collecting funds, and monitoring the clicks and statistics, which would be a time-consuming job in itself. It appears that there is never a dearth of advertisers in the program, from which the search engine draws the Adsense ads. Furthermore, webmasters don’t have to be so concerned about the information the search engines are providing and can be more focused on earning cash from those search engines. The first reason why Adsense is essential for content websites is because it already has learned a lot about the wishes of publishers and webmasters. Its continuous advancement means the appearance of a more advanced system that permits full advert customization. Webmasters are given the chance to pick from a number of different styles of text advert formats to better complement their website and fit their webpage design. The diverse forms of formatting permit the site owner the likelihood of more clicks-through from visitors who may or may not be conscious of what they are clicking on. This way the people behind Adsense, Google, will get their advertisements read and make profit in the process. The second explanation is the ability of the Adsense publishers to track not only how their websites are progressing, but also the earnings based on the webmaster-defined channels. Recent improvements in search engine technology gives webmasters the ability to monitor how their adverts are doing using customizable reports that have the facility to count page impressions, clicks and click-through rates. In this manner, webmasters and publishers can follow specific ad formats, colors and pages within a website. Trends are also easily noticed. You can assess the effectiveness of the changes you have made quickly by use of these reports. That means you can sort out the subject matter that surfers are making the most clicks on. Ever-changing requirements can be met while generating cash for the webmasters and publishers. The more flexible tools are also allowing webmasters to group web pages by URL, domain, ad kind or category, which will provide them an accurate insight on which pages, ads and domains are performing the best. The last and final reason is that advertisers have realized the advantages connected with having Google ads served on targeted websites. This increases the possibility that a web surfer will have an interest in their products or services. All because of the content and its constant upkeep Adsense is all about related subject matter, the more targeted your subject matter is, the more targeted the search engines adverts will be. There are some web masters and publishers who are focused more on their site contents and how best to maintain them than the cash that the adverts will generate for them. There was a time when people were not yet aware of the money to be achieved from adverts. The cash generated only came into existence when the webmasters and publishers realized how they could make Adsense be the generator of ads and sales. In those days, subject matter was the most important factor. It still is. With the attraction of funds, of course. Steelers Win 12th Straight Over BrownsThe Pittsburgh Steelers have been playing the Cleveland Browns for longer than any other team in the National Football League, dating back to 1950. And while it hasn’t been quite that long since the Cleveland Browns won a game against the Steelers it may be starting to feel like it. On Sunday, Pittsburgh won for the twelfth straight time dating back to 2003 as they topped Cleveland by a final score of 27-13. The good news for NFL betting enthusiasts who took the +13′ with the Browns as a road underdog is that they managed to cover the pointspread by the slimmest of possible margins. Betting against the defending Superbowl champion is a long standing handicapping concept, and this season at least its worked like a charm-the Steelers have only covered one of their first six games. Cleveland, meanwhile, evened their NFL pointspread record at 3-3 on the season. The Browns have covered three straight after dropping their first three both straight up and against the spread. Pittsburgh dominated the game in virtually every statistical category. They amassed 28 first downs to 12 for Cleveland, held a 543 to 197 total yardage advantage and a 36:46 to 23:14 time of possession advantage. Both teams turned the ball over four times, and the Steelers led only 17-14 in the third quarter. Most of the post game talk from both sides was about a controversial spot in the first half where the Steelers were given a first down on a short yardage play when it appeared that they didn’t make the required yardage. After the contest, Derek Anderson spoke of the frustration of continually coming up short against the Steelers. The Browns have only one once in ten games since Pittsburgh moved into their new home at Heinz Field: “We’re not trying to lose every time we go out here. We put tons of hours in and … it’s frustrating. Every single week, it’s frustrating.” Steelers’ tight end Heath Miller said the team is happy to be where they are at this point despite not playing up to their standards: “I think we haven’t played our best ball yet and that’s pretty comforting. We’ve gotten a few wins here without playing our best.” The Steelers will host Brett Favre and the 6-0 Minnesota Vikings next Sunday. The Steelers are a -4 home favorite with the total set at 45. After a bye week, the Steelers will hit the road to play another undefeated team as they take on the Denver Broncos on Monday, November 9. Cleveland will host the Green Bay Packers this Sunday, with the Browns a +7 home underdog and the total set at 42′. Ross Everett is a freelance sports writer and respected sports betting expert.
