Discussing Microsoft SQL Computer Training In DetailWhat kind of things might a person searching for Microsoft certified training expect to discover? Obviously, training organisations should be offering a variety of different options that match the needs of Microsoft certified training paths. Maybe you’d like to look for a person who’s got industry experience, who can give you some ideas on what sort of job would be right for you, and what sort of duties are correct for somebody with your character and ability. Be assured that your training course is designed to your ability level and skills. A quality company will always guarantee that the training is appropriate for the status you wish to achieve. Some training companies only provide basic 9am till 6pm support (maybe a little earlier or later on certain days); not many go late into the evening (after 8-9pm) or cover weekends properly. Never buy training that only supports students via a message system outside of normal office hours. Trainers will try to talk you round from this line of reasoning. The simple fact of the matter is – you want support at the appropriate time – not when it suits them. Be on the lookout for training schools that use several support centres active in different time-zones. These should be integrated to give a single entry point and also round-the-clock access, when you need it, with no fuss. Never compromise with the quality of your support. Most IT hopefuls that drop-out or fail, are in that situation because they didn’t get the support necessary for them. It’s usual for students to get confused with one area of their training very rarely considered: The method used to ‘segment’ the courseware before being couriered to your address. Usually, you’ll join a programme requiring 1-3 years study and get sent one module each time you pass an exam. This sounds logical on one level, until you consider this: What happens when you don’t complete every single section? Maybe the prescribed order won’t suit you? Due to no fault of yours, you mightn’t complete everything fast enough and therefore not end up with all the modules. To be straight, the best option is to obtain their recommendation on the best possible order of study, but make sure you have all of your learning modules right from the beginning. It’s then all yours if you don’t manage to finish as fast as they’d like. Validated exam simulation and preparation software is essential – and must be supplied by your training supplier. Confirm that your practice exams are not only asking questions from the right areas, but also asking them in the exact format that the real exams will structure them. This can really throw some students if they’re met with completely different formats and phraseologies. Why don’t you verify your depth of understanding through quizzes and mock ups of exams to prepare you for taking the actual exam. Some training providers supply a practical Job Placement Assistance facility, to help you get your first job. Sometimes, there is more emphasis than is necessary on this service, as it’s relatively easy for well qualified and focused men and women to land a job in IT – as there is such a shortage of well trained people. Bring your CV up to date as soon as possible however (advice and support for this should come from your course provider). Don’t wait until you’ve graduated or passed any exams. A good number of junior support jobs have been offered to trainees who’re still on their course and have still to get qualified. At the very least this will get you on your way. Most often, a specialist locally based recruitment consultancy (who will get paid by the employer when they’ve placed you) is going to give you a better service than a centralised training company’s service. It also stands to reason that they’ll know the area and local employers better. Please make sure you don’t put hundreds of hours of effort into your studies, and then do nothing more and leave it in the hands of the gods to find you a job. Take responsibility for yourself and get out there. Invest as much resource into landing your new role as it took to pass the exams. (C) 2009 S. Edwards. CompTIA IT Courses In Interactive Format – InsightsComputer and network support technicians are ever more sought after in this country, as institutions rely heavily upon their knowledge and ability to fix and repair. Industry’s need for better skilled and qualified individuals is growing, as we become consistently more dependent upon PC’s in today’s environment. Many individuals don’t comprehend what information technology is doing for all of us. It’s thrilling, changing, and means you’re a part of the huge progress of technology that will impact the whole world for generations to come. We’ve barely started to get a feel for how technology will affect our lives in the future. The internet will profoundly change how we regard and interact with the world around us over the coming decades. Always remember that income in IT in Great Britain is much more than in the rest of the economy, which means you will probably gain considerably more with professional IT knowledge, than you’d expect to earn elsewhere. As the IT industry keeps growing nationally and internationally, the chances are that the requirement for well trained and qualified IT technicians will continue to boom for years to come. Quite often, students have issues with one area of their training usually not even thought about: The method used to ‘segment’ the courseware before being sent out to you. Delivery by courier of each element stage by stage, as you complete each module is the typical way that your program will arrive. Of course, this sounds sensible, but you should take these factors into account: What if there are reasons why you can’t finish every single section? Maybe the prescribed order won’t suit you? Through no fault of your own, you may not meet the required timescales and consequently not get all your materials. For maximum flexibility and safety, many trainees now want to request that all their modules (now paid for) are sent immediately, and not in a piecemeal fashion. It’s then your own choice in what order and how fast or slow you want to go. Be on the lookout that any qualifications you’re studying for are recognised by industry and are up-to-date. Training companies own certificates are often meaningless. All the major commercial players like Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA or Adobe each have globally renowned skills programmes. Major-league companies like these will make your CV stand-out. Proper support should never be taken lightly – ensure you track down something offering 24×7 direct access to instructors, as anything less will not satisfy and will also put a damper on the speed you move through things. You’ll be waiting ages for an answer with email based support, and telephone support is usually to a call-centre that will just take down the issue and email it over to their technical team – who will then call back sometime over the next 24hrs, at a time suitable for them. This is all next to useless if you’re lost and confused and only have a specific time you can study. Top training companies use multiple support centres from around the world. By utilising an interactive interface to join them all seamlessly, no matter what time you login, help is at hand, without any problems or delays. Don’t ever make the mistake of taking second best when it comes to your support. The vast majority of students who fall by the wayside, would have had a different experience if they’d got the right support package in the first place. Copyright Scott Edwards 2009. IT Study Providers UncoveredCompTIA A+ consists of 4 training sections; you’re seen as A+ competent when you’ve gained exams for 2 out of 4 subjects. This is why most training providers only teach 2 specialised areas. In reality you will need the teaching in all areas as many positions will demand knowledge and skills of all four areas. Don’t feel pressured to complete all 4 certifications, however we’d advise that you take tutorials in all 4 subjects. CompTIA A+ in isolation will allow you to fix and repair computers and Macs; ones that are most often not part of a network – this generally applies to home use and small companies. If you would like to be a man or woman who works for a larger company – fixing and supporting networks, add Network+ to your CompTIA A+, or alternatively look at doing an MCSA or MCSE with Microsoft in order to have a better comprehension of the way networks operate. Trainees looking to start a career in IT normally haven’t a clue what direction is best, or which market to get qualified in. Working through lists of IT career possibilities is no use whatsoever. The vast majority of us have no idea what the neighbours do for a living – let alone understand the ins and outs of a particular IT career. To attack this, a discussion is necessary, covering several core topics: * The sort of person you think yourself to be – which things you get enjoyment from, and conversely – what you definitely don’t enjoy. * Are you looking to pull off a specific goal – for instance, working from home sometime soon? * What salary and timescale needs you have? * When taking into account all that Information Technology encompasses, it’s a requirement that you can absorb what’s different. * You should also think long and hard about the level of commitment that you will set aside for gaining your certifications. To cut through the industry jargon, and discover what’ll really work for you, have an in-depth discussion with an advisor with years of experience; someone that will cover the commercial realities and truth while explaining each certification. Massive developments are coming via technology over the next generation – and the industry becomes more ground-breaking every year. Technological changes and communication on the web is going to radically shape the direction of our lives in the near future; remarkably so. If making decent money is way up on your list of priorities, you will appreciate the fact that the income on average for the majority of IT staff is much better than with much of the rest of industry. It would appear there’s no end in sight for IT jobs expansion in the UK. The market sector is continuing to expand hugely, and we don’t have anywhere near enough qualified skilled IT professionals to fill current job vacancies, so it’s not likely that this will change significantly for a good while yet. Many trainers provide mainly work-books and reference manuals. This can be very boring and not really conducive to taking things in. Studies in learning psychology have shown that long term memory is improved when we involve as many senses as possible, and we put into practice what we’ve been studying. Courses are now available on CD and DVD discs, where your computer becomes the centre of your learning. Video streaming means you can watch instructors demonstrating how it’s all done, with some practice time to follow – with interactive lab sessions. Always insist on a training material demonstration from any training college. You should ask for slide-shows, instructor-led videos and virtual practice lab’s for your new skills. It doesn’t make sense to choose training that is only available online. With highly variable reliability and quality from all internet service providers, you should always obtain CD or DVD ROM based materials. Wouldn’t it be great to know for sure that our jobs are safe and our work futures are protected, but the likely scenario for the majority of jobs throughout England today seems to be that security may be a thing of the past. However, a fast growing sector, with huge staffing demands (as there is a massive shortage of trained professionals), opens the possibility of real job security. A recent British e-Skills investigation showed that twenty six percent of all available IT positions are unfilled because of a huge deficit of well-trained staff. That means for every four jobs available in IT, there are barely three qualified workers to perform that task. Acquiring in-depth commercial Information Technology exams is correspondingly a ‘Fast Track’ to achieve a continuing as well as worthwhile profession. While the market is growing at such a rate, is there any other market worth investigating for your new career. Copyright 2009 Scott Edwards. PC Support Training Online UncoveredIf your search is for Cisco training but you’ve no working knowledge of routers, what you need is a CCNA. This program has been designed to train students who want a working knowledge of routers. Many large organisations who have different locations use them to join up computer networks in different rooms to allow their networks to keep in touch. The Internet also is made up of hundreds of thousands of routers. As routers connect networks together, find a course that includes basic networking skills – perhaps Network+ and A+, and then do a CCNA course. You must have a basic grasp of networks before you commence any Cisco training or you’ll probably struggle. Once qualified and looking for work, networking skills will be valuable in addition to the CCNA. Find a tailored course that takes you on a progressive path to ensure you’ve got the appropriate skills and abilities before starting your training in Cisco skills. Please understand this most important point: It’s essential to obtain proper 24×7 round-the-clock support from professional instructors. You’ll severely regret it if you don’t follow this rule rigidly. Be wary of any training providers that use ‘out-of-hours’ call-centres – where an advisor will call back during the next ‘working’ day. It’s not a lot of help when you’ve got study issues and need help now. The very best training providers have many support offices across multiple time-zones. They use an online interactive interface to provide a seamless experience, irrespective of the time you login, help is just a click away, without any contact issues or hassle. Seek out a training company that goes the extra mile. As only true 24×7 round-the-clock live support provides the necessary backup. Getting into your first IT role is often made easier with a Job Placement Assistance service. But don’t place too much emphasis on it – it isn’t unusual for companies marketing departments to overstate it’s need. In reality, the still growing need for IT personnel in Britain is what will enable you to get a job. Update your CV at the beginning of your training though (advice and support for this should come from your course provider). Don’t wait until you’ve graduated or passed any exams. You might not even have got to the exam time when you will be offered your first junior support position; although this can’t and won’t happen if your CV isn’t in front of employers. If you’d like to keep travelling time and costs to a minimum, then you’ll probably find that a local (but specialised) recruitment consultancy could work much better for you than some national concern, due to the fact that they’re going to know the jobs that are going locally. Just ensure you don’t invest a great deal of time on your training course, and then do nothing more and expect somebody else to sort out your employment. Stand up for yourself and start looking for yourself. Invest the same focus into finding a good job as it took to pass the exams. There is a tidal wave of change about to hit technology in the near future – and it becomes more and more thrilling each day. Technology, computers and interaction through the web will dramatically change our lifestyles over future years; to a vast degree. The usual IT employee throughout Britain is likely to get much more money than equivalent professionals in much of the rest of the economy. Typical wages are amongst the highest in the country. The search for certified IT specialists is a fact of life for many years to come, due to the ongoing development in the technology industry and the huge shortage still in existence. An all too common mistake that potential students often succumb to is to focus entirely on getting a qualification, and not focus on the desired end-result. Training academies are brimming over with students that chose a program because it looked interesting – instead of the program that would surely get them an enjoyable career or job. It’s a terrible situation, but the majority of trainees commence training that sounds wonderful from the sales literature, but which provides a job that is of no interest. Try talking to typical university graduates to see what we mean. Take time to understand what your attitude is towards career progression and earning potential, and how ambitious you are. It’s vital to know what will be expected of you, what particular accreditations will be required and how to develop your experience. We advise all students to talk with highly experienced advisors before they embark on a study path. This gives some measure of assurance that it contains the relevant skills for the chosen career. Courses for Networking – OptionsThese days, industry would struggle without assistance from support workers mending networks and computers, while making recommendations to users on a constant basis. Because we’re all becoming progressively reliant on technology, we additionally inevitably become more dependent on the skilled and qualified IT professionals, who keep the systems going. Typically, a new trainee will not know to ask about a vitally important element – how their company segments the courseware, and into how many separate packages. Many companies enrol you into a program typically taking 1-3 years, and deliver each piece one-by-one as you get to the end of each exam. On the surface this seems reasonable – until you consider the following: With thought, many trainees understand that their providers standard order of study doesn’t suit. It’s often the case that varying the order of study will be far more suitable. And what happens if they don’t finish within their exact timetable? In an ideal situation, you want everything at the start – so you’ll have them all to return to any point – at any time you choose. This allows a variation in the order that you move through the program as and when something more intuitive seems right for you. Often, individuals don’t comprehend what information technology means. It’s ground-breaking, exciting, and means you’re working on technology affecting everyones lives in the 21st century. Computing technology and connections via the web is going to dramatically affect our lives in the near future; profoundly so. And don’t forget salaries either – the average salary in the UK for a typical man or woman in IT is significantly greater than average salaries nationally. It’s a good bet you’ll make quite a bit more than you would in most other jobs. Demand for professionally qualified and skilled IT workers is guaranteed for many years to come, thanks to the ongoing growth in the marketplace and the vast skills gap still present. Lately, do you find yourself questioning the security of your job? For most people, we only think of this after something goes wrong. Unfortunately, the reality is that job security has gone the way of the dodo, for all but the most lucky of us. We can however reveal security at market-level, by digging for areas that have high demand, together with a shortage of skilled staff. A rather worrying British e-Skills analysis brought to light that over 26 percent of computing and IT jobs cannot be filled because of a chronic shortage of trained staff. That means for each four job positions in existence in Information Technology (IT), we have only 3 certified professionals to do them. This alarming idea highlights the urgent need for more appropriately qualified IT professionals across the UK. Unquestionably, now really is such a perfect time to join the computer industry. Watch out that all exams you’re studying for will be recognised by employers and are the most recent versions. ‘In-house’ certificates are not normally useful in gaining employment. Only nationally recognised examinations from the likes of Microsoft, Adobe, CompTIA and Cisco will have any meaning to employers. (C) 2009 Scott Edwards. Computer Training And Study In Interactive Format ClarifiedCongratulations! As you’re reading this article you’ve doubtless been pondering on retraining for a new career – so you’ve already done more than most. A small minority of us are happy and fulfilled in our work, but it’s rare anyone does more than moan. You could join a select group who take responsibility for their future. On the subject of training, it’s important that you first make a list of what you want and don’t want from the position you would like to get. Be sure that you would be more satisfied before you put a lot of energy into changing the direction of your life. We recommend looking at the whole story first, to make the right judgements: * Are you hoping to be involved with others in the workplace? Would that be with a small ‘tightly-knit’ team or with many new people? It could be working by yourself with your own methodology may be your preference? * What’s important that you get from the area of industry you choose? (Building and banking – not so stable as they once were.) * Should this be the last time re-training is necessary? * Are you worried with regard to the possibility of getting new work, and keeping a job all the way until retirement? We ask you to find out more about Information Technology – there are greater numbers of roles than staff to fill them, because it’s one of the few choices of career where the sector is still growing. Despite the opinions of certain people, it isn’t just geeks looking at screens the whole time (some jobs are like that of course.) Most positions are occupied by ordinary men and women who want to earn a very good living. A capable and specialised advisor (as opposed to a salesman) will ask questions and seek to comprehend your abilities and experience. This is useful for calculating your study start-point. Sometimes, the starting point of study for someone with experience can be vastly dissimilar to someone just starting out. It’s wise to consider a user-skills course first. Beginning there can make the learning curve a much easier going. One area often overlooked by those mulling over a new direction is the concept of ‘training segmentation’. This is essentially the breakdown of the materials for drop-shipping to you, which vastly changes the point you end up at. You may think that it makes sense (with training often lasting 2 or 3 years for a full commercial certification,) for your typical trainer to courier the courseware in stages, until you’ve passed all the exams. But: What would happen if you didn’t finish every module at the proposed pace? Often the staged order doesn’t work as well as some other order of studying might. To avoid any potential future issues, most students now choose to insist that all study materials are sent immediately, and not in a piecemeal fashion. It’s then up to you in which order and at what speed you want to go. Starting from the viewpoint that it’s good to choose the job we want to do first, before we’re able to consider what educational program would meet that requirement, how do we decide on the right path? Flicking through a list of odd-sounding and meaningless job titles is no use whatsoever. The majority of us have no concept what our next-door neighbours do at work each day – so we’re in the dark as to the intricacies of a specific IT job. Deliberation over these different factors is most definitely required when you need to dig down the right answer for you: * The sort of individual you think yourself to be – what kind of jobs you enjoy, and on the other side of the coin – what you definitely don’t enjoy. * Are you hoping to get certified because of a certain raison d’etre – i.e. are you looking at working based from home (being your own boss?)? * What salary and timescale requirements that guide you? * Learning what the normal career roles and markets are – and what makes them different. * You have to take in what is different for each individual training area. To bypass all the jargon and confusion, and reveal the most viable option for your success, have a good talk with an advisor with years of experience; someone who will cover the commercial realities and truth as well as the accreditations. Any program that you’re going to undertake really needs to work up to a fully recognised major certification as an end-result – not some little ‘in-house’ diploma – fit only for filing away and forgetting. From a commercial standpoint, only the top companies like Microsoft, Cisco, Adobe or CompTIA (to give some examples) will get you short-listed. Nothing else hits the mark. (C) Scott Edwards 2009.
